Young Love

It seems the romance bug is making the rounds in the Baden house.  Atticus hasn't been immune either. He informed me that he "looooooves Jessica".  When prompted, he says that he still likes Esme, but he loooooooves Jessica.

A little bit of background information -

Esme is a little girl in his class.  A couple of weeks ago, instead of telling Esme that he liked her, Atticus decided to whack her on the nose with a wooden block.  Since that incident (where he fell to the 'yellow' list at school)... we've been working on giving compliments.  That seems to be working.  Atticus has done a fine job of telling his teachers and other students nice things.

Theo is in Atticus's class.  Theo has two older sisters, one of whom is Jessica.  Sigh... Jessica.  He looooooves Jessica.

I'll be back to fill you in as the love saga of my children continues!

Outnumbered

So, in Wren's nursery class there are 8 boys and Wren.  This hasn't really bothered her much.  In fact, she really only has eyes for Ollie.  You should hear her say his name.  She takes a deep breath and then says his name slowly while exhaling.  No joke.  According to Ms. Sharon -- Ollie and Wren have had quite the little blossoming romance lately.

But wait...

Just the other day, while out on the playground... Karim wanted to play with Wren.  Her attention was diverted to another classmate!  Oh no!  Ollie went over to Ms. Sharon and said, "Ms. Sharon.... Karim won't share Wren!!"

And so it begins...

Word is however that a new girl will be joining the class after the half term break.  I wonder if this will disrupt the balance?

The Internet Is Forever

Grrr.  Feeling a tad frustrated.  This is usually where I can vent a little bit - my own sort of wonky diary in a way.  But.. my wonky diary is on the internet and anything I say may come back to haunt me or hurt someone else later in life.  Strange to think that my thoughts and opinions could affect the future outcome of unforeseen events -- but I know it's possible so I'm practicing self control.  Not easy for this speak my mind gal...

Freaking internet.

Sigh.

Walk the Walk, Talk the Talk

We've discovered that it's easier to just go with the flow and use the British vernacular while here.  It causes less confusion for the kids when we (Greg and I) use the same words that they're hearing at school and from other kids, parents, at the park, etc.  So... here is a short list of things we've overheard our kids saying already:

Tidy Up
Rubbish Bin
Trainers (aka Tennis Shoes)
Jumper (sweater or sweatshirt)
Straight Away
Well Done
Go Wee
Loo
Knickers

It's pretty amusing.  It also cracks me up to hear Atticus especially try to imitate the accent.  He has a friend, Xavier, in his class - but Atticus says his name X-A-V-AHHH.  There is also a little girl named Philippa in his class but when Atticus says her name, he puts an "R" at the end because with the accent, that's what he hears.  Interesting.

I wonder what other words and phrases will work their way into our day to day...

Feed Me

In the 2.5 hours since I picked up Atticus from school, he has eaten:

1 package of Yo Yo Bears fruit roll ups
1 chocolate cake snack treat thing
1 bowl of pasta
2 helpings of peas
7 chicken nuggets
1 large carton of yogurt (adult sized, not kid)
1 string cheese
1 bowl of Weetabix cereal and milk (like shredded wheat)

Seriously... He's non stop! $10 says he asks for cashews after his shower!!
