LA LA Land

And we're back...

We had fun visiting with the MacAveney family as always. They were gracious hosts, grilling up dinner, cracking open the wine, and allowing us to run around like mad people chasing their children through the house. It was great. There was a minor incident where I truly thought I was stuck sans clothes or towel in the shower (with the bathroom door locked) -- but more on that at a later date! I made it out, and that's what counts!

Saturday afternoon we headed north of the city. Tony and Beth's wedding was beautiful. It was one of those afternoons that reminds you why everyone wants to live in Southern California. Sunny, blue skies, 85 degrees, light breeze... the perfect day for an outdoor wedding. We sat at Table 5 with an assortment of Tony and Beth's friends. There was an immigration lawyer from Chicago, a medical journal editor, a pediatrician, two arhcitects from Boston, and a quantative portfolio manager from NYC. Quite the mix. Here is the placecard from our seats, and the silver bell (which I have to admit, Tony and Beth did a great job of trying to kiss every time we rang the bell - impressive). There were also great handmade boxes with butter cookies at each seat! Never fear - I kept the box so that I could reverse engineer it and figure out how they made them!!

Oh - I almost forgot the band! Duece. Comprised of Tony's brother Pat and a good friend, this duo plays quite regularly in Fort Wayne, IN. So - if you're ever out that way and hankering for some rockabilly-country-folkish type stuff, look them up. They were great!

Sunday morning, Beth's aunt hosted a brunch for the out of towners at her house in Sherman Oaks. The highlight of the day was something her uncle invented called Sky Snakes. I didn't get the whole story on how Sky Snakes came about - but apparently this is an ancient tradition that got started when "someome" ended up with a random tank of helium. Since it was a celebration, a large grouping of snakes was configured to be released to the wild. Note the added tinfoil... it helps you see the snakes in the sky for a longer period of time I learned...

A close up of the two kissing orange baloons.... (oops, sky snakes).

We carefully walked to the center of the yard and set the contraption free.

There was a slight mishap and the red baloon was caught on the power lines. Tragedy. Would the snakes be free or would they be electicuted before our eyes? Greg and I chose not to watch for a moment, and to instead say our goodbyes to Beth and Tony. I managed to snap this great picture of Greg and Tony then we were off to the airport.

As we were getting into the car, the snakes broke free and we watched them fly off into the afternoon sky. Totally bizarre, and quite amusing!

It was a whirlwind weekend, but a good one!
