Beautiful Day

What a great day. It was a chilly 67 degrees in the house this morning when we woke, but it warmed up outside to a fabulous 70 something. Greg spent the day entertaining Atticus and then the three of us walked to lunch at Hyde Park Bar and Grill. They have the best french fries EVER.

It's been so nice outside that Greg opened the front door and some windows and we all enjoyed the breeze. I chugged through some work and the boys spent some time out on a walk, playing in the jungle gym and just chillin...

We've got a big ahi tuna steak to go out on the grill in an hour or so...

Just a good day.

Just Call Me Flipper

Atticus successfully rolled from back to belly tonight! Woo hoo. He was playing in the jungle gym, staring up at the lights and listening to the birds chirping when he hiked his knees up to his chest and rolled to the right. He looked a bit surprised at this sudden accomplishment - then the water works started when he realized he couldn't roll back over.

Poor guy actually had a bit of a rough day. I'm not sure if it's lingering "blahs" from his shots on Tuesday or if it was just an off day. Atti and Marianne had a good morning - but it all went downhill around lunchtime today. There was more screaming today than we'd seen in quite a while. I think Atti will sleep well tonight however because he was awake the majority of the day and the screaming tends to wear him out.

And... we're hoping Marianne finds out she's not contagious. Fevers are normally not a good sign. Greg did get his flu shot today on campus. I have found an Aetna clinic that's doing flu shots for me next Thursday. My lunch break will be a trip to the CVS for a shot!! Fun, huh?

Atticus says thanks for the emails - keep them coming! atticusbaden@gmail.com

Whew.

I know I still need to post from this past weekend - but holy moly, what a day we had today!

Atticus had his 3 month checkup at 9 am this morning. He weighed in at a whopping 15 lbs flat. Someone apparently forgot to tell him that the average is to double the birth weight at 6 months, not 3 months! We chatted with Dr. Owens and I'm going to attempt to keep with the dairy free diet at least till the 4 month checkup. I'm also going to try to avoid peanuts - just in case. Granted, no one in our family has peanut allergies... but we figure it can't hurt to avoid them, so I might as well. I asked all my other random questions, and then the nurse came in to give Atti 2 shots. Poor guy. The tears started, the wailing started, and I just felt terrible. Sigh.

Then, off to the post office. Then to the bank. And... when I pulled up to the bank branch I discovered that the WAMU had early voting inside. Sweet. So, by the time we met up with Diane and Eleanora - the mail was in the post, the checks deposited, and I had voted in the election. Since that wasn't enough excitement for the day - we headed over to visit with Skip, Nikki and Zoe. :-)

Today was busy, but good.

12 Weeks Old

I can't believe it. It's been 12 weeks since Atticus was born. 12 whole weeks. How did that happen? Where did the time go? (It's been 12 weeks since I've slept 8 hours in a row - perhaps that's why I'm so unaware of the whooshing time?)

I return to work tomorrow morning. I am so incredibly thankful for my job and the ability to work remotely. It will be tough to close off my door from the rest of the house and leave Atti with Marianne -- but I know it will get easier. Tomorrow will be rough. I haven't been away from Atti for more than an hour at a time. I fear I will be an emotional wreck. I can only imagine the emotional roller coaster for Mom's that must leave their child in a day care facility outside the home. I miss the adult interactions and using my brain to problem solve -- but I know I'll miss the mid-morning nap on the sofa with Atti curled up on my chest too.

OK, well I'm off to shower now because I know I'll be running around like a mad woman in the morning. I can do it. Atti will be fine.

Pumpkin Patch

Well, we finally made it to the Pumpkin Patch. We went to the Tarrytown United Methodist Church. Atticus and I joined Skip, Nikki and Zoe for an afternoon of photos and pumpkin picking. There were rows upon rows of pumpkins which made for a fun backdrop. We had such a good time, we may have to go back again for more photos. I took some photos, a little video (haven't yet gotten that imported to the computer) and left with one big round orange pumpkin.

Here are a few of my favorites, the rest are on the Picasa site. Use the Baden Family Photos link on the right hand side of the screen to get there!

Daddy Fascination

Atticus is laying on the sofa and Greg has been talking to him and tickling him and Atti is just staring up at Greg and smiling like crazy. His little legs are kicking and he keeps trying to roll over but the whole time he's just been grinning up at Greg and staring with big bright eyes! Awwwww.

Those smiles make it all worth it.

Atti the Pirate

Uncle Skip was having fun with one of the pirate pictures from the pumpkin patch. :-) Seriously, is he not the cutest pirate EVER?

Sleep Rocks!

Are you ready for this? Atti went to bed last night at 9:30 pm and he didn't wake up until 5 am today! Woo hoo. I think that counts as sleeping through the night. Who knows if he'll do it again - but, at least I know it's possible!

We also took a trip to Georgetown this afternoon to see Great Grandma and Great Grandpa. Atti was on his best behaviour smiling and cooing and being generally adorable. :-) It was a good day and a great visit. Tomorrow, we may join Sarah and kids at a pumpkin patch in Tarrytown. I'm looking forward to it.

House of Slytherin

There seems to be a sudden fascination with sticking out the tongue. I admit, I'll be a bit disappointed if the sorting hat puts my child in the same house as Draco Malfoy. :-)

Dairy Free

I have angered the universe and I'm being punished. I'm convinced. No dairy. Are you kidding me? Does the universe not know of my love of gelato, and ice cream, and cheese and yogurt and ummm the one million other things that are dairy??? I mean, I'm all about a good steak and potato for dinner --- but we went out with friends the other night for Mexican and I couldn't eat the queso! Sigh.

In an effort to reduce the number of times that Atticus spits up, I am attempting to eat a dairy free diet. I know! I have lots of friends who manage this task - but for some reason, it seems like torture to me. I mean sheesh, I used to eat a bowl of cereal every morning! And yogurt and granola was my "go-to" snack!

On the upside... Atti does seem to be keeping his meals down.

The things we do for love....

Ahoy Matey!

A big thank you to Cathy who called this afternoon and let me know that the pirate costume was suddenly "available" again on OldNavy's website. I had checked last night, and the 2T was available, but nothing else. Then - this morning... poof, nada - gone again. I'm not sure I understand how the inventory is working at Old Navy, but I'm not going to complain. One pirate costume is on it's way to Austin. Now... to find a local pumpkin patch for photos!!

Captain Jack will live on this Halloween!

One World

This song and video are from an acquaintance friend in San Francisco. Thought I'd share.

Captain Jack

Oh no! I'd been planning on purchasing the pirate costume from OldNavy.com for Atticus for Halloween. I put it in my shopping cart a couple days ago, but didn't actually place the order. I just logged in to place the order and it's out of stock! Argh!!!!

The plan was to take Atticus to a local pumpkin patch and get some photos and then have him dress up for the kiddos that come through the neighborhood. Guess I'll have to keep checking the site to see if it comes back in stock.

I'm so sad.

Naming Ceremony Video

I've been meaning to post these links for a while now...

Here is the video my brother Shawn filmed during Atti's naming ceremony in Dallas. It's in two parts because YouTube only allows 10 minutes and the total running time of the naming is about 11 minutes.

Enjoy. Thanks Shawn!

Toe Chub

Did you know it's possible to have toe chub? Atti's big toes actually have toe chub between where the toe connects to the foot and the toenail. It's cute. Squishy toe chub. Hee hee. I tried to get a picture of the toes after the bath this morning. I'll see if the pictures turned out hopefully tomorrow.

In other news... Greg and I have begun the nanny search. I've got a job posting up on a website that does some pre-screening, and I've answered a few ads on Craigslist. Hopefully we'll find our nanny soon. We're meeting a few candidates tomorrow and Friday -- fingers crossed!!
