Ode to Gelato

Oh yumminess that is gelato...
Why did it take me so long to hear of your goodness?
I could try a new flavor everyday
And still never tire of your creamy delightfulness-o!

Greg and I stopped by Teo last night after dinner. I know it was voted best in Austin - over Mandola's and Paciugo... but I have to say, I'll take gelato any day! And it doesn't really matter where from - I think each location has their strengths. Last night I had half blueberry and half organic peanut butter and nutella. I have to say the pb and nutella ROCKED.

The biggest bonus of being pregnant in the summer... I can have gelato pretty much every day!

My Grandma's on YouTube

I'm sooo not kidding... check it out. Here's a clip of my family singing Happy Birthday for my Grandma Jeanne's 80th Birthday. The embed feature is disabled, so you'll have to click on the link - but it's a short video. :-)

Happy 80th Grandma Jeanne!

Getting Ready

Wow... less than 6 weeks till the official due date, and I'm definitely feeling the urge to "nest". Only catch -- we're still in the apartment, and it doesn't do me any good!

Greg did pick up some boxes this afternoon on his way home, and the packing will commence this weekend. Well, packing and a million other things! My folks are headed down tomorrow for Grandma Jeanne's 80th birthday dinner. Before they head to dinner, we're all meeting at the new house - so we can see the freshly painted nursery (Sherwin William's Lacewing), drop off more of the baby shower gifts including the new stroller and carseat! The stroller was supposed to be at my folks house in time for my shower a couple weeks ago - but there was a minor snafu. Alas, it's here now and will be making the road trip down to Austin tomorrow.

Greg and I will be missing my Grandma's celebration to attend a lawyer BBQ event thingy. One of the lawyers Greg just finished working with is having quite the extravaganza at his home tomorrow evening. While I'd love to see all my family, we're in the networking is good for future job mode... so to the lawyer dinner it is! We're having breakfast with some friends from out of town on Sunday morning, and then our 2nd childbirth class is also Sunday afternoon.

In other just random news... dry cleaning in Austin is ridiculously more expensive than it was in the 'burbs of Plano/Allen. Seriously -- I called half a dozen places within a few miles of us, and the cheapest I found to launder men's shirts was $1.50. That's the cheapest! The catch - they were one of the most expensive places for suits. Ugh. Now, on the upside, the owner lady was wonderfully nice - and even remembered my name two days later when I went to pick everything up... but yeozers. (She also carried everything to my car so I wouldn't have to which was very kind...)

We've also begun the process of interviewing pediatricians. Tricky business. How do I know what kind of parent I'll be to see if we're on the same wave length as the potential new doctor? The only thing I do know - is that I'm questioning the need for so many vaccines - especially so freaking early. The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends this schedule. I think we're leaning more towards Dr. Sears alternate schedule. We're not anti-immunization, just anti extra immunization and is there really a need to cram them ALL into the child's first 18 months of life? I plan on picking up a book tomorrow called The Vaccine Book. It's a great resource that provides general information about all the recommended vaccines. Sigh... lots of decisions are in our future.

Ok, off an running....

Kudos

It is my humble opinion that Greg had an incredible first year of law school. Way to go babe - you rocked your first year!!

Maternity Photos

Ok... so I have lots of goings on to catch people up on, but I know you all really want to see pictures. So, here are a ton that my friend Melanie took of me this past weekend at Heaven Leigh Escape during our scrapbooking retreat.

I'm starting to feel a bit like a tanker truck - but everyone keeps telling me I look great. So I'm going to go along with their warped sense of perception for a few more weeks.

Place: Heaven Leigh Escape - a B&B just outside of Decatur, TX

My Uncle's Wife

Honestly.... I probably shouldn't even mention this, but I really find it a bit amusing! Both Nikki and Skip have been selected for a gallery show in Dallas. Outside the Lines is a really awesome exhibit. Nikki was selected with her first knitted entry ever called Rain Cloud. I'm quite proud of her. Skip's entry is a beautiful piece called Night Sky Over Reykjavik. I was lucky enough to attend the gallery opening last night with my folks and my Bubbe.

I was in a great mood. The shower had gone great, the weather was beautiful, my cousins had both been chosen to participate in a great exhibit - life was really going well. Then it happened. Muah ha ha.... I saw my Uncle Richard and his wife, Lin. Being in a cheery mood, without even a second thought, I sauntered over to say hello. Lin looked like my being near was causing physical pain! I looked at both of them, said hello, asked how they were doing... nothing earth shattering I promise. Lin gave me such a look, then she just turned away from me. No joke. My Uncle was more jovial, smiled said hi, and said they were doing well. I stepped purposefully in front of Lin and tried again. I smiled, asked how she was doing, how her kids were doing.... Again, a look and a "fine" then she fully turned her back to me. I chose to ignore the cool reception and focus back on my Uncle. I looked at Richard, said it was great to see him - which it really was (it'd been quite a while) and said I was off to find Skip's art in the other room....

But seriously people... I just had to laugh at Lin's actions. I mean, really? Really? For pete's sake - just get over it. I don't know if it's the best attitude to have or not, but, I've got a more laissez-faire kind of approach to life... I can't be bothered holding in that much rage and anger. It's just not worth it.

So - that's where we stand. I'm over it. I'm not apologizing for anything, but I'm moving on. If anyone else wants to join me - fabulous.

Baby Shower

Today was Baby Baden's shower at my parent's house. I'm still amazed at the generousity of friends and family. We had a great day. Fruit and chocolate fondue, pinwheel sandwiches, tons of cute candy rattles, labelled bite size candy Hershey candies, hand-made life saver pacifiers and more. I hope someone got pictures of the pacifiers - they were super cute.

TC was in charge of the games... and I was a little nervous about the "diaper game" since I've seen it before at Kaylane's shower for Ella... but it was a good time. I only guessed 3 of the 12 diapers though!! Guess I'm losing my "candy" touch!! My college bud, Allison, was the big winner of that game. We also had the crowd cut off a piece of ribbon and try to guess how big around I am currently. My Bubbe was off by about 3/4 of an inch - no kidding! But, she claimed family privlidge and gave her prize to the 2nd place winner, my cousin Nikki's Mom, Linda.

Of course there were also tons of presents for BB. Blankets, teethers, diapers, stroller parts, books, crib sheets, hangers, you name it! This is one lucky baby! There was also an IOU from Nikki -- she's knitting BB a sweater. How cool is that? Seriously.... I haven't even knit anything for my unborn child! (Oy, the Jewish guilt....) I am so grateful for my family - wow.

Thank you everyone. It was great to see everyone and we truly appreciate all the kindness.

La dee dah

So... what's new? It's been a pretty quiet week since I last filled you in.

Greg's internship is going well. It's a new experience for him, and with material he's not all that familiar with - so there's definitely been a learning curve... but so far so good. I think he would appreciate some more hands on guidance from the other attorneys, but at the same time, it's been a great exercise in crash course learning and failing. We never knew that using the word 'comprising' versus 'consisting' could make THAT much of a difference when drafting a patent... but apparently it can!

On Saturday morning, we drove out to the Hadd house and wandered over to the swimming pool across the street. Hudson and Evan were competing in a swim meet. That was fun to watch. It was a really big event, there were at least a hundred kids, no joke, from 6 and under to the 15-18 year old group. It was good to hang out with Andy, Sarah, Anne and the two little guys. Greg had a slight mishap with a cup of coffee and a 2 year old and I wish I would have taken pictures of the results, but alas...

We stopped at the mall and picked up some Vintage Plane nursery bedding from Pottery Barn Kids since it was onsale. No, we don't know yet what we're having.... but we really like that bedding if we have a boy, and figure better get it now while it's on sale and still in the stores! Worse case, I'll exchange it for girl stuff...

I also indulged in some self pampering over the weekend with a trip to Embellish Nails. It's getting trickier to take pictures of my own feet... but I promise it was a fabulous hour of relaxation complete with strawberry lemonade, chocolate truffles, a warm aromatherapy shoulder wrap and the foot massage I can't talk my husband into doing properly.... he tickles!! The color is Strawberry Margarita - rather ironic - because I wish I could have one!!

We're expecting to do a walk through of the new house soon so we can start to plan where everything will go.... and what we need to purge before the move. Also on the to-do list for the week, start calling for bids from moving companies! Our friends and families have been quite generous in offering to help with the move, but seriously, moving in July in Texas.... EWWWWW!

We also managed to meet up with Darren and Brandon over the weekend for some catching up and a late dinner. Discovered Darren is on a kickball team.... and Brandon is playing softball with the guy from the morning show on 101X. I also found out a bit more about "Stephanie"... Goat's new lady friend. Sounds like a nice normal girl. Go Goaters!! No warrants, a working car, a steady job, a girlfriend.... I think my friends may actually be growing up!

I'm headed to Dallas tomorrow night for work and Baby Baden's shower at my Mom's house. I'm sure there will be many pictures to add from this coming weekend.
Here's the one from last week taken May 24 when I was 29 weeks. At least I was clean in this picture, still hadn't finished fixing the hair or makeup... but oh well. And don't look at the haircut, for some reason, this last time I went to see Shanna, the hair came out a bit too 1980s for me....

I'll get Greg to take one more profile picture before I head to Dallas tomorrow night.
