Playing Catch Up

The quick rundown:

Happy Belated Birthday to Greg. We love you.

The drive to Dallas was AWFUL. It was the end of Spring Break, the end of SXSW, and apparently a full moon or something -- but it took almost 6 hours to get from Austin to Dallas. YUCK.

The work trip has been good thus far, it's always good for some face to face time and I've learned quite a bit that I would have missed from home.

My mom's knee is doing better, but now she's fighting a blood clot. No fun.

Atticus is having a grand ole time saying Bubbe and Pops over and over again. He's going to miss them when we move.

The perfect house that we found in Perrysburg has apparently been rented to someone else. The homeowners that we'd been conversing with did a really low thing (we think) and gave the house to someone else. Bad form. This after trading several emails with Greg so that we could set up an appointment for Yvonne to check out the place this weekend... Bad karma. Sigh...

Those are the highlights...

Oh Please Noooooo!

So, it seems I have a bit of a sore throat and a wee little cough. Fingers crossed that it's just a fluke. Of course, Atticus is also slightly snotty and congested - so you never know who got it first and who shared. Go away cold/cough/allergy ickiness!

In totally unrelated news (I do this a lot, I know...) Greg is over at a friend's house tonight doing the fantasy baseball draft (very exciting stuff apparently) but that leaves me alone to watch American Idol. This is the first time I've watched all season so I don't know anything about any of the contestants. I'm only catching the last hour - but so far so good. I'm hoping to see the apparently hot guy from Fort Worth. Perhaps I should look at the website to figure out who I'm supposed to be looking for...

Busy Fantastic Spring Weekend

What a great weekend. Gorgeous weather, crepes with friends, the park with the Atticus, Zilker Kite Festival, and just some good old fashioned family time. Not much else to say -- just a great weekend! (By the way - I'm currently 30 weeks pregnant, if anyone is counting.)

Come On People

Seriously. The school cancelled the entire prom to keep one girl from bringing her girlfriend as her date. Seems just a tad bit extreme to me.

Movie Night

Just a quick shout to say thanks to my friend Sandra for inviting me over last night to watch a movie. I miss movies. We watched Law Abiding Citizen with Jaime Fox and Gerard Butler. Good flick. A little gory in some parts -- but definitely suspenseful.

Annoyed

It's totally not her fault - but ugh!! Today we gave Peanut a flea prevention treatment. The stuff you have to squeeze at the base of their neck...

Well, I'm not sure if we got it too far down or what? But either she's been able to lick it, or it's just not being absorbed or something. And -- she's been curled up on the big armchair that matches the sofa for the past few hours... She just got up and there's this nasty oily wet patch now on the cushion.

Just add that to the weird pooey looking spots tht just appeared yesterday on the actual sofa - grrr. Guess now we really really need to take the slipcovers in to be dry cleaned. What a pain.

I wonder if I need to put a blanket or something down everyplace Peanut likes to lay down until we're sure the stuff is absorbed.

Hungry Are We?

No joke, I'm going to try and list all of the things Atticus ate today:

1 large kiwi
1 cup of cubed cantaloupe
2 dozen red grapes
1 bag of freeze dried apple (equiv to about 1.5 Fuji apples)
1 tube of yogurt
couple cups of dried Cheerios
dozen or so animal crackers
bag of Welch's fruit snacks
1 mozzarella cheese stick
approximately 2 scrambled eggs
half of a Kerbey lane (think big) blueberry pancake
handful of strawberry slices
half a bag of Gerber yogurt snacks
a third of a container of puffs
half a dozen (maybe 8-9) shredded mini wheats
4 or 5 clementine oranges
personal sized container of cottage cheese
half a slice of pizza
about a third of a cup of dried veggies (peas, corn, peppers)
glass of milk
drinkable yogurt drink

I'm sure I'm forgetting something... the kid was on a roll today. He's not big into veggies -- at least he eats the dried ones, but otherwise, he just kept telling us all day that he was hungry!!

Random Post

Ok, I don't even recall how I stumbled upon this site -- but I think it's kinda funny. Made me smile.

Ugh.

If it's not one thing, it's another...

First, the good news:
Took Peanut back to the vet yesterday to have her blood work done. For the first time in months, everything came back in the normal range! Yay. So, we're dropping her meds back to once a day and we'll retest in 2 weeks. The only strange thing she's got going on is that for the past week or so, at least once a day she's decided not to go all the way into her litter box to tinkle. It's like her tush is hanging out over the edge just a little bit -- but that little bit is causing us to mop the floor once a day to clean up cat pee. Fun. As if my pregnant nose weren't sensitive enough! But - it's not her fault, I think it's just age and arthritis acting up. We'll probably move to a larger and lower to the ground litter box soon.

Atticus has had his own set of random ailments lately. I'm not sure if it's the age - but he's suddenly getting very picky about food, and not eating much at all. Today, he ate probably 1/4 of what he used to eat. Perhaps the growth spurts are slowing down? And not sure if it's coincidence or not, but he's been constipated too. Poor guy - we're trying to give him lots of water and high fiber foods, but I have a feeling it's all related. The upset tummy, the not eating, the random whining, the strange bent knee walk/squat thing he's been doing...

I think we're ready to pick up a training potty. I don't think he's fully ready to train yet, but he's showing interest and grabbing at his diaper more often lately. Figure it can't hurt to let him get accustomed to a little potty. Or - maybe we just go straight to the big potty? I have no clue. Anyone reading that's trained a little boy? We do need to pick up one of those two step step stool things -- even if it's just to help him reach the sink to wash hands. He rather enjoys washing hands, but it's getting harder to pick him up and hold/balance him -- especially with my growing belly!

My Grandpa Mike is having surgery tomorrow for a blockage in his carotid artery. Please keep him in your thoughts. I'll stop by the Heart Hospital tomorrow night and check in on him. And, Atticus's BFF Eleanora is having surgery on Friday. We're sending lots of love their way too.

Greg and I are hanging in there. Tired, stressed and slightly worn down - but otherwise OK. There are a few new pictures in the Baden Family Photos, so check them out. If the weather clears up for this weekend, we're going to head to the Zilker Park Kite Festival on Sunday. Doesn't that just sound like fun? And -- if the weather stays nice for another weekend or two, I'm going to schedule a family photo session. I really want to get some professional shots done while still pregnant -- and then again once #2 arrives.

I think that's about it. We finally have phone, internet and cable again (after not having it for almost 5 hours)... so I think I'll read for a bit, turn on the news, and talk to you all tomorrow...

Copy Cat

Just saw something on my friend Cari's blog -- and I had totally forgotten about the cute little tickers!

First off - MAZAL TOV to Cari, Jason and Isaac! Woot! Woot!

As a very minor note - I added a pregnancy ticker to the bottom of our blog. Just scroll all the way down.

A Real Book!

This may come as a shock - but I've started reading an actual book. I KNOW! I checked it out from the library last week (along with a few for Atticus...). The book was recommended by my friend Diane who just finished it for her book club. If I can finish it - I may join her and the club for the discussion. It's The 19th Wife by David Ebershoff. Historical fiction of sorts... sounds intriguing.

I did also read Trading Up by Candace Bushnell. Trashy novel - and a long one at that. Dragged in the middle, but the end was alright...

Now, the big question is -- WHY am I reading when I should be knitting? I don't know. I want to read 19th Wife so that I'll have a reason to get out and be social and interact with other adults. But -- I could still pull out a knitting project and finish something! I'll have to add that to the to-do list. :)

28 Weeks!

I had my 28 week appointment this morning. I thought by setting up the appointment at 7:15 a.m. I wouldn't have a wait... Sigh.

But anywho-

Things are right on track. My weight is going up a little faster than I'd like, but Dr. Seeker didn't seem too concerned. He says as long as my weight gain is below the number of weeks pregnant I am - we're OK. I had to glug glug down the sugary glucose drink and have my finger pricked and then I saw Dr. Seeker. My glucose numbers and CBC numbers all came back great. No gestational diabetes worry, no iron pills needed, and my cell counts looked good. Yay. We did a quick sonogram to check measurements of baby baby. Overall, we're at about 40% on the size and weight chart. The legs were long however... so a tall and skinny baby. I'll take it. Measuring today at 2lbs and 12 oz.

I also scheduled all my remaining appointments! Yikes, we're getting close!
